Offering Childhood Glaucoma Treatment

At UCSF Benioff Children’s, we offer treatment for primary congenital glaucoma. Glaucoma in childhood is rare and may be isolated or occur with other congenital or acquired ocular or systemic conditions.

Glaucoma is associated with intraocular pressure elevation that can result in optic nerve damage and permanent vision loss. Symptoms can be nonspecific but include:

  • Rapidly or asymmetrically enlarging eyes
  • Clouding of the cornea (the clear part in the front of the eye)
  • Photosensitivity, often associated with tearing

The goal of treatment is is to lower eye pressure. At UCSF we offer both medical and surgical treatments to lower the eye pressure and prevent vision loss.

For information contact (877) 822-4453 (877-UC-CHILD), or email pediatric ophthalmologist Julius Oatts, MD, at Julius.Oatts@ucsf.edu.
